Welcome to my website.

My name is Iloisa Fortes. I’m born in Rotterdam and live and work now in The Hague. My work studio is at Make It Art Worthy (MIAW). My father comes from Cape Verde and my mother from Holland. I play with different identities and characters in performance, photo, video and 3D work which result in absurd, clichéd, obscure, minimalistic, drastic and humorous pieces. Experimental noise and music, costumes and masks are usually important tools in the works. Next to this I’m making drawings and paintings of famous artists. And I like to photograph live music and nature.

My last character was unplugged live as Mermaid with voice and guitar. Mermaid is searching for her lost love. Songs are on this website and on Soundcloud.

Singing Mermaid who is on dry land, transformed to a free swimming Mermaid. Swimming in the pool and open water. She stands for freedom as a black woman, Third Culture Kid and with love for water. Clean water is important for Mermaid to swim and live in. Video’s and Performance are developed from this.

Mijn naam is Iloisa Fortes. Ik ben geboren in Rotterdam en woon nu in Den Haag. Mijn atelier is bij Make It Art Worthy (MIAW). Mijn vader komt uit Kaapverdië en mijn moeder uit Nederland. In mijn werk speel ik met verschillende identiteiten en karakters . Hieruit ontstaan Performance, video, foto en 3D werken welke absurd, obscuur, cliché, minimalistisch, drastisch en grappig kunnen zijn. Meestal zijn experimenteel herrie en muziek, kostuum en masker belangrijke gereedschappen voor de Performance werken. Daarnaast teken en schilder ik portretten vooral van beroemde artiesten. En ik vind het fascinerend live muziek en natuur te fotograferen. 

Mijn laatste karakter was als Zeemeermin unplugged live met gitaar en zang. Zeemeermin zoekt haar verloren liefde. De liedjes zijn te horen op Soundcloud en hier op mijn website. 

Deze zingende Performance op het droge heeft zich getransformeerd naar een vrij zwemmende Zeemeermin, in het zwembad en open water. Ze staat voor vrijheid als zwarte vrouw, als Third Culture Kid en met een hart voor water. Voor Zeemeermin is schoon water belangrijk om in te zwemmen en leven. Hieruit ontwikkelen zich Performances en video’s.
